Course Overview

The 12-week program allows students to build their chess skills through tactical and strategic lessons as well as develop their cognitive skills.

WEEKLY STRUCTURE

Understand the Gameboard

  • Get introduced to the chessboard, basic rules, and proper chess notation.
  • Learn the movement of different pieces, its value and naming of squares.

  • Get your first move right!
  • Learn the basic opening concepts and practice special moves like kingside and queenside castling and pawn promotion.

Tactics - I

  • Learn the basic tactics to limit the opponent’s options.
  • Practice and understand the basic concept of ‘Pin’ through different puzzles.

Check and Checkmate - I

  • Get introduced to the different elements of check and checkmate.
  • Become a better player by learning how to finish your game by studying multiple checkmate patterns.

Double Attack

  • Learn to develop double attacks to create multiple threats.
  • Attack two pieces at once and practise the same through different puzzles and assignments.

One Move Checkmate

  • Learn how to checkmate in one move and recognize different checkmate patterns.
  • Practice and play the same within teams or race against time.

Tactics - II

  • Strengthen your basic tactics by discovered attacks.
  • Practice and play various discovery moves including discovered check where you move one piece to reveal an attack by a second piece.

Tournament Time

  • It’s time for some action!
  • Engage yourself in a Chess tournament, play individual and team games against players from different batches

Midgame

  • Develop your midgame.
  • Combine different tactics and strategy, attack and defense, pawn and piece play.

Tactics - III

  • Find out more tactics in the gameplay.
  • Use the skewer tactic to attack a valuable piece of your opponent, forcing it to move and then attacking the other piece behind it.

  • Checkmate in two moves and three moves by practicing multiple puzzles and games.

Frequently asked questions

Is the trial class free? Yes! We want all kids to have a first hand experience of Allround experience and so we don't charge for the trial classes.
What if my child does not like the course or teacher? Please reach out to the Allround Student Coordinators through chat or email and we'll be happy to help. Generally all courses are fully refundable before the second session (unless specified otherwise), please let us know then if you are unhappy for any reason.
